Jenni C. · Seizure treatment Apr 2023

I was transported to Hospital Costamed after suffering a seizure while snorkeling in Akumal. I woke up in the ER, confused and in a lot of pain and wanting to be released so I could get back to take care of my young kids (who were back at Club Med thanks to the amazing tour guide who helped save our family!). Despite my very poor ability to speak English, my caretakers were wonderful and did their best to communicate with me. One of the hospital heads came to speak with me and explained that I had been through a lot of trauma and needed to be kept overnight. A neurologist also came to speak with me at one point to…

Inger M. · Heart failure and Takotsubo treatment Apr 2024

I was brought in after a heart failure incident in Playa del Carmen on February 7, 2024. The cardiologist, dr. Ponte, was not on call, but was brought in right away and for the next three days he would show up whenever it was needed, day and night. I felt very well taken care of while in the hospital - they took my condition and symptoms seriously and didn't just send me off on my way. I had had a heart attack with a stent put in ten days earlier (in the US) and my husband and I were in Playa del Carmen (with two doctors' approval) to rest and recover. When dr. Ponte couldn't find the source of my…

Mike R. · Ankle fracture treatment Jan 2020

I broke my ankle in the region and was taken here by a couple of good samaritans. While they treated me reasonably fast, it was essentially meaningless after I learned about their absolutely asinine billing practices. X-rays? That'll be $700 u.s. please. Cast for the ankle? $2000 u.s. please. When I refused the cost of the cast they held my x-rays hostage until I paid another $130 that to this day I don't know what it was for. As soon as I started questioning their prices they became condescending and stand-off-ish. Once I stopped giving them money it was on me to get myself out of their hellhole hospital and get transportation to another place (Tulum general hospital) where I…

Angela F. · Treatment and support during hospitalization Sep 2022

My friend's son became very ill during a cruise during July 2022. He was transferred from ship to shore. Taken to Costamed Clinica there in Cozumel, I In my humble opinion, I must say that he couldn't have gotten better care elsewhere, not even in America. This medical center is accredited in at least three countries. I credit Andrea Sekula for much of the concern and kindness that was shown to Michael Chase. We spoke no Spanish, most of the staff spoke little to no English, She was ALWAYS AVAILABLE to us for any services that were required by us...even as far as assisting in making our return reservations. She and, I think his name is Jorge, gave us their…

Jim S. · Emergency care and medical testing Aug 2019

When I moved to Tulum last year with my family my wife and I were both concerned with the medical support available in Tulum. We were warned to stay away from Costamed by some locals a few which were doctors. When I was required some help and needed an internal medicine specialist I found an excellent Doctor at the hospital , in another case I had an emergency and was treated at costamed as a walk in patient . I have found that they can perform almost all medical test and and supply all the results the same day as the test . I have had to admit my wife on an emergency basis on two separate occasions and each…

Tom S. · ENT evaluation for scuba injury Mar 2016

Visited on Mar. 8th to have ears checked for scuba injury by ENT. No issue with Dr. and diagnosis or treatment recommendation. But carefully check your bill or they will take advantage of you. They quoted me a price in pesos in pharmacy and then converted to US$ at an exchange rate of 10:1 when they charged my CC, instead of the prevailing rate which was closer to 18:1. When I contacted them they basically said "tough - that's how we do it." Had I know, I would have demanded to pay in pesos and let the bank do the conversion to US$ which would have been at the current exchange rate. And they charged more than a 117.00 for…
